TEEN Moms......?
Hi
I'm 17 and I have a 7 week old daughter, I would like to talk to other teen moms for advice, etc... and if anyone lives in Milwaukee, WI we can meet to talk or something...just trying to make friends and please dont give me any BS about m being a teen mom because I've had enough! thanks!!!!!
Well i am 17 yrs old and a single mom. I have a son name Gabriel and he is 1.5. If you wish to talk to me, feel free to email me in my profile. Hope to hear from you soon.
Teen moms?
hey is anyone else out there a teen mom who is tired of the sterao types? me and my boyfriend of 3 years have a baby girl and i got pregnant at 16 had her at 17. we are living on our own and we do not have welfare unstead he is working in the governments rcmp. we don't rely on other people like alot of people think we do and never will we. were proud young parents and plan to stay proud. i started back in school and now my daughter is in a lovely daycare with all the other babys and teen moms we have there. i have my life on track as a teen parent so why do people keep stereo typing us its stupid!
I was also a teen mother at one time, and yes I worked, finished school, and took care of my son. So it can be done, and kudos to you for being so responsible. However, statistics do show that majority ,( not all,) of teen mothers end up as single parents, working low class jobs, and on welfare. I think that is where the stereotyping comes from. If there were more teen parents like you, me, and the others that posted on here, then that stereotype would not exist.
Teen moms?
Why do people judge teen moms? When I was 18, I got pregant unplaned. I was in collage, and lived in a 2 bedroom apartment with 2 good friends (both girls). I decided to keep the baby. Her daddy left because he couldn't fincally afford it. No guy support, he gave up his rights. The first few years every pitched in (roomates, parents, friends). I surrived paycheck to paycheck as a waitress (during the night).

Yesterday it was my daughters 4th birthday. We had a great party in the new 3 bedroom house. My 1st year teaching 4th grade just ended, but it was great. I will be tutoring guys part-time in the summer. So, if I can accomplish this, why do people think all teen mothers are weak? What do you think of teen mothers?
I was 16 when i got pg. and everyone judged me and everyone still does like i was some sort of slut(so not try he was my first and i got pg and we were togeter 4 years) I don't have a problem with teen parents as long as you own up to your duties.
Teen Moms!?
Are you or were you a teen mom?
I'm a 22 yr old mom of 3 doing research for a school assignment on teen pregnancy and education. Please take a minute to answer a few questions to help me with my research. Thanks.

1.How old are you?

2.Are you married/ in a realationship?

3.How old were you when you had your first baby?

4.How many guyren did you have before your 19th birthday?

5.Did you finish /are you finishing high school?

6.Did you/ are you planning to attend college or university?

7.How many months did you take off school for maternity leave?

Serious replies only. Dont answer if you are a man, had your guyren after your 20 birthday . thank you.
I need 30 more answers so I can complete this project! Please fill out for your self or someone you know. Thank you!
I'm 29
I'm divorced.
I was 17.
Just the one before my 19th.
I got my GED
I went to College
I didn't take any time off school for maternity leave.
How many teen moms are married or stayed with the father?
I am a teen who is pregnant, and me and the father love each other very much. I was wondering if there is other teen moms who are still with or stayed with for a while the father?
We aren't planning on getting married right away, even though it may seem like the right thing to do, but what are our odds of still being together?
Unfortunately, im not with my sons father. When i was 15 yrs old, he walked out on me bc he didnt want any part in our lives. He sees our sons once in a while (cuz i still have contact with his mother) but that is as much as we both see him.

Now i am 17 yrs old and my son just turned 2 few week ago. I am doing great with out his help. I work, go to school, and im a great mom and dad to my son. My mom and dad support me but they dont help me econimcally. As for my sons paternal grandma, she is a sweetheart. she has taken the role that her irresponsible son denied and is helping me through this stage in my life. I can even say that she supports me more than my mother herself lol.

Now let me try answering your question. Even though for me it didnt work, and i am raising my son alone i think if you really love him and he loves you, you can still be together. I want to believe that true love exitst no matter the age and that not all men are the same.

Best of luck,
Teen moms: How did you tell your parents you were pregnant?
To teen moms, or moms who had guyren in their teens:
How did you tell your parents and how did they react? How old were you at the time?
Hmm I found out on a Friday...me and a couple friends went up town and I decided to take a test. I was pretty sure it was positive. I waited until after the weekend, because it was Mother's Day weekend. I didn't want to stress her out on Mother's day...Then on Monday I went to school and started feeling icky. I didn't feel bad enough to need to go home but I did, just hoping that my Mom would say something. When I told her I felt sick she asked if I could be pregnant, so I took out the 3 tests that I had taken already and asked her if they were positive. We went up town that night to get two more that were easier to read. I took one at the weigh station on the way home. It was positive. She told me that she would be there for me no matter what I chose to do. My Dad, on the other hand, offered me $1000 to get an abortion. Even though I was a stupid 16 year old girl I knew that you couldn't put a price on a life.
Teen Moms: Do you think that society underestimates your ability to be a great mom?
I always see how people rag on teen mothers but I have seen some fantastic young teen moms around, so teen mommys out there do you think that your abilities to be a great mom are underestimated?
I was a teen mother..I was pregnant at 16 and became a mom at 17 yrs old. Yes at first people always nagged on me. Saying I dont think she will be a good mom too young and all. Wrong again..they all got a shock. I was and still am such a good mother. I am 23 yrs old with 4 guys. I homeschool them and everything. I am also a online travel agent.
I think people really do Underestimate young mothers and fathers., but the fact is they are just as good as other mothers that are older. Age doesnt matter, most peope who chose to raise their guyren are great parents.!

Edit. I have never used Public assitance note that I didnt even get support from by babies daddy when he decided he wasnt ready!
What's the difference between teen moms in this generation and teen moms 20-30 years ago?
I keep seeing people on here bash teen moms and I want to know what the difference is. No stereotypes please.
Teen moms 20-30 years ago were kept in secret, if the father left while they were pregnant the parents usually married them out. I don't really think the bashing is so much directed at the teen mom who got prgenant and such as it is more so at the teen moms who get pregnant once and then did it again without any concern to being caught up in the same situation. I also think the coldness and bashing comes from the frustration of all the eductaion that is out there now for birth control that wasn't as easily accessible to girls 20-30 years ago, and despite the eductaion the pregnancy rate in teens is still high. Plus a lot of them do not have a good family support system and end up not continuing their education and end up below poverty for the taxpayers to take care of. Some do go on to continue their education right away or once their guyren are older, just when people here teen mom they often think of the welfare payroll and guys being irresponsible and guys having guys. Just be glad you've only encountered teen mom bashing online...my OB/GYN was prejudice against teens getting pregnant and would be rough and ignorant to me. I quickly switched. She was an older German lady who was just ignorant. Nice experience for my first visit!
Any advice on how to start a non profit for teen moms and still make money?
I really want to start a program/organization for teen moms in the DC area. This has been my passion for years. However, I am at a stand still because I am not sure how I would be able to start up and run this program full time and still make a living. Please help. All suggestions welcomed! =)
There are 2 separate and distinct issues related to starting your non-profit.

The first is the legal corporation that is an issue for your state bureau of corporations or similar state government agency. I don't know if the DC has a similar agency.

The second is it's tax status. That is governed and granted by the IRS.

Download the IRS instructions and publications on non-profit organizations. It can get confusing if you start to get mired in some of the technical details. Don't worry too much about those. Focus on the forms and deadlines needed to establish your official tax status. It takes time.

If the total revenue of the corporation is less than $25,000 in a year, no tax return is required. But you still need to get the IRS to certify the organization as a non-profit.

Great idea and the non-profit organizational form gives a lot of people added comfort as to the value of your mission.

As the founder and primary employee, you have the ability to pay yourself a reasonable salary from the non-profit. I bet your local United Way Executive Director pulls down a salary of well over $100,000, plus benefits!

Governance of the corporation will need to be by a Board of Directors, though. You can pick the board yourself. You need to have bylaws, too. Try a google search for non-profit bylaws to see examples.

Any non-profit actually MUST have revenues that are greater than expenses in order to survive over time and build the organization. However, because of their tax status, they do not pay taxes on this "profit."

How's that for a start?
Is there special financial aid for teen moms?
I am going to be a teen mom in three months (due feb 7th), and I'm starting college in july. Is there any sort of financial aid specifically for teen moms?
Unless a local organization is sponsoring teen moms... there isn't any special financial aid. You will be able to fill out the fafsa as an independent student IF you will be providing more than 50% of your guy's financial support (which typically means that you'll have to be working full-time). If you won't be providing more than 50% of the guy's financial support, then you'll still be considered a dependent student and you will need to provide your parents' income and asset information, as well as your own. Need-based grants will be based on the information on your fafsa. You will be eligible for federal stafford loans (a dependent freshman can borrow up to $5,500/year).

Depending on what your parents make, your best bet for the most financial aid would probably be to get a minimum wage job working full-time... this should put you as independent and will bring your efc to near 0, if you and your guy are living on your own. With an efc of 0, you should qualify for the maximum in federal and state grants.

You can also search for need-based or merit scholarships and apply for the ones that you believe you fit the criteria for... if you are awarded a few scholarships, that can equal thousands of dollars each year. It can be hard work finding scholarships and applying for them, but they're worth it.

I have looked for single mom scholarships for four years... I only came across one that was for single moms over the age of 40 -- so it didn't do me any good.
