| There's a bit on preventing spam on phpBB messageboards on the Spamhuntress.com Anti-Spam blog: spamhuntress.com/2006/09/14/advic… Usually when you've got moderator privileges on a forum, you can see the poster's IP address displayed in posts..... if you're registered on google, and use their "personalised homepage" feature when logged in, there's a module you can add to it that allows you to look-up which ISP's these IP addresses are assigned to, so you can report them......... however if it traces the IP address to Layeredtech.com don't bother, as I've found their support department is ****ing useless at dealing with spam complaints...... I once reported a guestbook spam message within 10mins of it being posted on my guestbook while I was cleaning off the last lot, traced it to them..... gave IP address, time stamp...... practically handed them all the details on a plate, and all I got in reply 2hrs later from some prat in their support department asking for "more information"......... what more ****ing information could you need than that for crying out loud? so instead I now just block all IP addresses belonging to that company, such as 72.36.244.143 (and all other IP addresses starting 72.36.*.*) If the board is running on a Unix / Linux based webserver, you can also use the IP address information + a few other things to block people by creating a .htaccess file and uploading it to the the server: www.javascriptkit.com/howto/htacc… There's also some Anti-spammer banners @ spammerbegone.com/beourfriend.php that tell spammers exactly what you think of them :D |
